The anchor points can be seen when the path is selected using the Direct Selection tool. To create a smooth path, click and drag the Smooth tool over the desired part of the path.
3⁄4 Erase tool: This tool is used to remove points on the path or stroke. To erase the path, click and drag the tool along the length of the path to be deleted.
3⁄4 Pen tool: This tool is used to create straight, curved, open, and closed paths.
To draw open paths, click the Pen tool, and then click the page to create the first anchor point. Later, click and drag at different locations to create the desired shape. To complete the path, press the Ctrl key and click away from the path. An open path will be created.
To draw a closed path, create a path, and click the first anchor point to close it. To draw a linear path, click at different locations.
The Pen tool has some hidden tools, which are as follows:
● Add Anchor Point tool: It is used to add anchor points to a path.
● Delete Anchor Point tool: It is used to delete anchor points from the selected path.
● Convert Direction Point tool: It is used to convert corner points into smooth points and vice versa.
3⁄4 Scissors tool: This tool is used to open a path without removing the line segment. To do so, click a point to split the path at that point, or click a line segment to split the path.
4.1.3 Editing Objects
One can edit an object by changing its shape or size. Objects can be moved, rotated, or scaled using the transformation tools. The user can also rearrange, align, convert, group, and lock objects.
■ Resizing and reshaping objects
To resize an object, click the Selection tool on the Tools panel, and then click and drag the frame handle. One can
also resize the object by entering values in the width and height fields of the Control panel.
You can reshape the object after creating it. To reshape an object, click the Object menu, select Convert Shape,
and click the required shape.
■ Transforming objects
The transform options include move, scale, rotate, shear, and flip.
3⁄4 Moving objects: To move an object, select the object using the Selection tool, and drag it to the desired location. To move an object accurately, define its position settings in the Move dialog box that appears by clicking Move in the Transform options, located in the Object menu. Refer to Figure 4.4.

3⁄4 Scaling objects: To scale an object, select the object using the Scale tool, and drag the corners of that object. To scale an object accurately, define its scale settings in the Scale dialog box that appears by clicking Scale in the Transform options, located in the Object menu. Refer to Figure 4.5.
In the Scale dialog box, the chain icon that appears at the right side of the fields can be used to scale the object proportionally or independently.
