The Lunar New Year is the time when

The Lunar New Year is the time when the old year is over and the new year comes by the lunar calendar. This is also the time when the cycle of the universe finishes: the winter ends and the spring, the season of birth of all living things, comes.

Tet is an occasion for family gathering. People, who are far away, try to be together at Tet. It is a time when one pays respect to the person who have brought up him/her. It is also an occasion for everyone to send best wishes for a new year to the others, stop thinking about unhappy things and say good things.

The preparation for a new year is completed before the New Year's Eve. People often decorate their houses and buy some foods and drinks. Besides that, they also go shopping to buy some new clothes. And they make some sticky rice too.

At Tet, children receive red tiny envelopes from the elders. Then, family often greets warmly the person who first enter the house. This is called "First-foot". And during the Tet, people usually give each other best wishes and behave well. They believe that things they do during the Tet will follow them all the year. Additionally, they come to visit their relatives, neighbors and friends.

The Lunar New Year is the biggest, oldest and most popular holiday in Vietnam. These are such funny and happy days that people prepare and welcome new year enthusiastically. In addition, it is a wonderful accasion fro Vietnamese families to gather.
