Getting Started


Q: How does FreeMyApps work?

A: It's pretty simple! When you download and try our free sponsor apps, you will earn credits, and credits can be redeemed for gift cards. In other words, you can get real gift cards without spending a penny, and it really works! This is all possible because our sponsors love helping people discover their cool apps, and we love helping our users earn free stuff, so, win-win!


Q: Can I use FreeMyApps?

System Requirements:
Apple (iOS) Devices
iOS 6 or greater is required
Jailbroken devices are not supported and will not be able to redeem gifts
iPods must be version 4 or higher
You must use FreeMyApps with the Safari browser
Settings > Safari > Accept Cookies must be set to 'Always' or 'From visited'
Settings > Safari > Private Browsing must be set to OFF

Enrollment and Sign-in


Q: The first time I try to select an app, I am asked to enroll first. What happens in enrollment?

A: FreeMyApps collects basic information about your device to create a profile so we can keep track of the offers you accept, the credits you earn, and the gift cards you have redeemed. This information helps in other ways, too, for example, this information is used to make sure you get the right kinds of offers based on your device type.


Q: What is happening on the screen that says Install Profile & Verify Settings? (It's kind of spooky!)

A: This prompt comes from your Apple device. It is the official way for FreeMyApps to get basic information about your device, and this is what allows us to keep track of the credits you've earned and get you your rewards. Don't worry, we can't see any personal information about you, not your name or phone number or anything else.


Q: When I agree to Install, it says you will change the settings on my iPhone/iPod/iPad - is that true?

A: No. We do not make any changes to your phone's settings, despite the scary warning. The Install Profile is an Apple tool that is generally used for another purpose, where company administrators are changing over a large number of phones all at once. We are stuck with the warning since we need to use the Install Profile tool, but again, we only use it to collect some information about your device (not you), and we do not change any settings.


Q: I performed the "Install Profile" enrollment step, but I'm having second thoughts ... is it possible to undo this?

A: No worries - there's nothing to undo! The profile that is installed is removed automatically after the process is complete. All that is left behind is a standard browser cookie, and to remove that, go to Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data and FreeMyApps will no longer recognize your device. (If you decide later to return and go through the enrollment process again you will get all your credits back).


Sponsor Apps

Q: How do I get access to padlocked apps?

A: In order to have access to padlocked offers, you must get a "key" by downloading and launching an app labeled with a green key icon. To get a key, you must launch the app from FMA by clicking the special green launch prompt that will appear after you download the app.

Once your key app moves to the redeemed apps list, no further action is required.

Q: I downloaded one of your sponsor's apps but I'm not getting my credits. Can you help?

A: We are very sorry you are having difficulty! There could be a couple potential reasons for this.
You didn't click on the app on the FreeMyApps Sponsors tab before downloading it
You didn't run the app for long enough after downloading. Did you use it for at least 30 seconds, did you get to know the app a bit?
You have already downloaded the app before. Even if you deleted the app, you can only earn credits if this is the first time you've downloaded the app before.
For iOS users, you must be in the US iTunes store to earn credits.
Sometimes apps need you to do more than just use them for 30 seconds. Sometimes you need to register or get to a certain level before credits will be paid, but the app should say this where you click on it. Make sure to read the app descriptions carefully!
Occasionally we have technical issues that delay credit payout. Make sure to check our Facebook and Twitter feeds for information about system issues.

Q: I'm still not getting my credits for anything. Can you help?

A: You may not be getting credits because you manually or accidentally reset your Advertising Identifier. If you change your Advertising Identifier at any time you will still see apps, but you will stop getting credits for them! If you think this has happened, please contact support and ask for help refreshing your identifier. Note that clearing your cookies will NOT reset your Advertising Identifier. The following actions will change your Advertising Identifier and interfere with your ability to earn credits:
Click on the "Reset Advertising Identifier" button in Settings > About > Advertising > Reset.
Click on the "Erase All Content and Settings" button in Settings > General > Reset.
Restore the device from a backup.

Q: Why do I have to launch key apps from within FMA to get a key?

A: Launching key apps from within FreeMyApps (FMA) is important to help verify and confirm that your device is compatible with certain FMA offers. By launching from within FMA, you are automatically verifying important device information that we do not get as part of the enrollment process. None of the information we get in this process is personal or permanent.

Q: The sponsor app is incompatible with my device and won’t open! How do I get my credits?

A: Sometimes the applications are not compatible with all devices. If the application is incompatible and will not open on your device, unfortunately you will not get credit, but more apps are being added all the time!


Rewards / Gift Cards

Q: How do I get my gift card?

A: Once you have enough credits, you can get your gift card instantly just by selecting it from our gifts page. All FreeMyApps gift cards are granted to you as codes that can be directly redeemed online. We'll provide you the instructions for redeeming each particular gift card you choose.

Q: Are there any restrictions on earning gift cards?

A: Some FreeMyApps gift cards have strict requirements on redemption, for example, sometimes you must be at least 13 years of age or must have a US address. Before you redeem any gift, please read the User Requirements carefully which are shown after you select a particular gift card but before you confirm the redemption.

Q: Can I get a refund for a card that I picked?

A: Unfortunately we can't refund your credits for gift codes you have selected. This is because the only way to tell if a code is has already been redeemed or not is to actually redeem it. Sorry!

Q: I forgot my gift card code!

A: No worries! Just go to the FreeMyApps gift page and scroll down until you see the button for 'Redeemed Gifts'. Find your gift card and click the 'Details' button and you should see your code. For more information please visit our article on finding your promo code on FMA.


Social Sharing

Q: I referred a friend, but I don't see any credits. When will I get those credits?

A: First of all, your friend must be a brand new FreeMyApps user who enrolled in FreeMyApps for the first time using your own special share link. Then, your friend must earn credits for trying a sponsor app. Once those things have happened, you should see your sharing credits the next time you return to FreeMyApps.

Q: I shared with Facebook/Twitter/SMS/Email, but I'm not receiving my 200 credits?

A: Getting your special share link out there is just the first step. To get credits, your friends sign up as new users. If your friends use your special share links to visit FMA, you will get 200 credits for each friend that enrolls and earns credits for at least one app.


General

Q: I'm getting a new phone or tablet, can I transfer my credits to the new device?

A: Sorry, but no! Your FreeMyApps credits are directly associated with the device you used to earn them. They cannot be transferred to a different device. So, be sure to spend any credits you've earned before you get rid of your older device.

Q: When will you get new Sponsor applications so I can earn more credits?

A: We are always working hard to get new apps available for you, but it can be hard to predict exactly when they will come through. The best way to stay on top of what's happening with FreeMyApps is to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Q: I can't find a certain reward or gift card that I want.

A: If it was there before, don't worry, we are probably already busy restocking it. If it's a reward you have in mind, let us know why you would like to have it. Either way, feel free to email us with your share code at support@freemyapps.com.

Q: What's this about credits expiring?

A: Don't let your credits expire! And don't worry, it's easy to avoid. If you are inactive for 60 days we will assume you have stopped using FreeMyApps and your credits will expire. To be 'active' you just have to earn credits from at least one sponsor app or social share, or redeem at least one gift card. As long as you do any one of those things we will realize you are an active user and the 60-day counter will reset.


Troubleshooting

Q: When I try to redeem a gift it says 'Please contact support'

A: If you get this message, it means that FreeMyApps has found your device to be in violation of our Terms of Service. This could occur for lots of reasons, but most often it is related to devices being jailbroken or tampered with in ways that are not approved by our sponsors.
