Chambers of the Heart
The heart has four chambers: the right atrium, left atrium,
right ventricle, and left ventricle. These chambers form two
pumps in series: the right heart, which is a low-pressure system
pumping blood through the lungs; and the left heart, which
is a high-pressure system pumping blood through the rest of
the body. (Blood flow through these chambers is illustrated in
Figure 31-3.)
