I am Cai Dang Thi Thuy, I am 23 years old holding a degree of Bachelor of Art in Accounting at Thang Long University, Vietnam. I am now seeking for admission to the Master of Art in International Business and Development at Sophia University as my specialization. Through this statement of purpose, I plan to represent about my education background, my goals and the reason for choosing Graduate Program in Global Studies at Sophia University.
Before deciding to pursue higher education abroad, I have earned almost two-year experience working for AEON Retail in Vietnam. By the time working here, I have learnt many valuable things, from punctuality, self-consciousness to the commitment to seek out ways to exceed customer expectations and the business mindset of supporting local community growth. It totally impressed me and that is why I set the target to take the Master’s Course in a Japanese university with such education and training ideals. After a long time considering, I reckon that the most appropriate place for my development orientation is Sophia University. First, Sophia University enhances the international spirit with the enrollment of students from 61 different countries. This would be a great opportunity for any person who aim to study and communicate with excellent individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The international environment could strengthen my flexibility to interact with foreign colleagues and customers in my future career, at the same time boosting confidence, maturity and providing a chance to improve my language skills. Furthermore, Sophia located at the heart of Tokyo where I can easily find all the common types of retail in Japan, through that I could observe how Japanese operates their business and later apply what I learn to improve the retail quality in my home country. As AEON and Retail are going strong in the Vietnamese Market, it would be the career advancement for me to earn knowledge in the related field of International Business and Development.
To truly integrate into the international environment, I tried to equip myself with a solid language foundation and a good knowledge background. With regard to my academic record, I majored in Accounting at Thang Long University. I chose to study Accounting because I want to understand deeply about the field of study that has always been considered as the basic tool of Business. To be honest, Accounting was my toughest challenge back in university since it required a totally different mindset to absorb, but then I reminded myself that I would achieve it by any chances so I tried to stay focused and finally finished the four-year period with average score of 7.24 / 10, approximately to 3.0 / 4 – Regulation 43, Ministry of Education and Training. Academic ability is important, but developing soft skills is also a must in the new explosive trend of globalization. It is obvious that language is the key to global success and that is why I’m always determined to practice and sharpen my language skills. I can now speak English, German and still on my way to reach the target of N3 Japanese by July 2017. On the other hand, to attend the Master’s Degree in Global Studies and fully understand what I’m going to learn means I should get enough experience in the professional international working environment. That is why I spent two years working for AEON Vietnam as a Management Trainee and a Group Leader. In early 2016, I received the “ 2015 Excellent Performance” award and featured in the list of “Top Employees of the year 2015” for my effort to improve sales and exceed customer satisfaction. I always mind that whatever I do, I would do it with all my heart and that hard work will always pay off.
