Tet is celebrated on the first day

Tet is celebrated on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Some weeks before the New Year, the Viet Namese clean their houses and paint the walls. New clothes are bought for the occasion. One or two days before the festival, people make Banh Chung, which is the traditional cake. On the New Year’s Eve, the whole family gets together for a dinner. On the New Year morning, the young members of the family pay their respects to the elders. In return they receive lucky money wrapped in red tiny envelopes. Then people go to visit their neighbors, friends and relatives.

Tết được tổ chức vào ngày đầu tiên của năm mới âm lịch. Một vài tuần trước Tết, Việt Namese làm sạch nhà cửa và sơn tường. Quần áo mới được mua cho dịp này. Một hoặc hai ngày trước khi lễ hội, người ta làm bánh chưng, là bánh truyền thống. Vào đêm giao thừa năm mới, cả gia đình đến với nhau cho một bữa ăn tối. Vào buổi sáng ngày đầu năm mới, các thành viên trẻ của các gia đình tỏ lòng kính trọng với những người lớn tuổi. Đổi lại họ nhận được tiền lì xì bọc trong phong bì nhỏ màu đỏ. Sau đó mọi người đi thăm hàng xóm, bạn bè và người thân của họ.
