Saturday, May 7, 2016, 8:54 PM - The massive wildfire that has burned part of Fort McMurray was set to double in size by the end of Saturday, officials say, even as winds have shifted such that the fire is burning northeast away from the city. With the city near empty, fire officials say it could be months before the devastating fire is finally brought to heel."In no way is this fire under control," Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said at a news conference on Saturday, citing continued high temperatures and strong winds as ongoing challenges. The fire has burned more than 1,600 structures, and many of the 88,000 residents who fled the city this past week will face a wait before they can return.Notley said the city's power grid is in bad shape, water is not drinkable, no stores are open and much hazardous material remains to be cleared-- all significant barriers to the evacuees' return, to say nothing of the wildfires, which were around 156,000 hectares in size late Friday and were expected to double by the end of Saturday.
