In Table 1, Panel A compares the leverage ratios for the Canadian MNCs and DCs. The MNCs have significantly higher leverage
than DCs based on total and long-term debt ratios but have similar short-term debt ratios. The MNCs have about 26% higher
TotalDebt ratios than the DCs (30.57% compared to 24.30%, pb0.01), and about 44% higher LTdebt (22.93% compared to 15.87%) but
similar average STdebt ratios (7.66% compared to 8.37%). This evidence indicates that the difference in TotalDebt between MNCs
and DCs is mainly due to the difference in their LTdebt. The results are similar when we compare the median leverage ratios.
