world conference vows action against
the nations of the world, alarmed by new evidence of global warming that threatens unpredictable climatic and atmosphere changes, voted Thursday to take action against gases contributing to the " green house effect" and the depletion of the ozon layer.
" it is not yet possible to determine the pace or consequences of global warming, but all paticipating nations have agreed it is time to limit the emission of carbon dioxide" said a report by the high level World Climate COnference at the conclusion of a week long meeting.
The conference, attended by ministerial level delegates, agreed that all participants will enact legislation to freeze the level of emission of carbon dioxide whithin 5 years. Even tougher measures are to be taken to reduce the production of other gases including chloroflourocarbons, methane and nitrous oxides, which deplete the earth's ozon layer, said a report issued by the conference
