Deal prices for scrap go up again in Turkey
Turkey / Scrap
Import scrap prices have moved up in Turkey. Mills have again accepted higher offers of US and European material on
the need to restock.
Local companies are actively buying due to low inventories. There is demand for scrap. Im receiving a lot of calls from
buyers every day, one of suppliers said. Almost all steelmakers were careful in purchases in June, and try to catch up
now. In particular, two more sales of scrap from the US East Coast have been recorded, Metal Expert learns in mid-July.
To various buyers in Iskenderun, HMS 1&2 (80:20) was sold at $372-373/t CFR against $372/t CFR earlier.
The biggest increase has been detected in a contract
between a mill from Karadeniz and Estonian
exporter, in which a mixed lot (35,000 t) was
marketed at $377/t CFR. Prices for Baltic HMS 1&2
(80:20) have moved to $375-376/t CFR, though
importers from other regions can book it at $373-375/t CFR in view of lower freight rates. The previous
transaction for HMS 1&2 (80:20) from the Baltic
region was done at $371/t CFR Turkey.
Scrap collectors from the Netherlands and Belgium
managed to slightly increase prices. Specifically,
the former sold HMS 1&2 (75:25) at $360/t CFR
Marmara ($2/t up from latest contract), while the
latter marketed a mixed lot (33,000 t) to another
steelmaker at $363/t CFR Marmara ($1/t up).
