PM calls on dialogue partners to build trust
SINGAPORE (VNS) —
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered a keynote address at the 12th Shangri-La Dialogue yesterday calling on nations to build strategic trust for peace, co-operation and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dung said Southeast Asia in particular and the Asia-Pacific in general were once fierce battlefields and deeply divided for decades, so the entire region had long held a burning desire for peace.
To achieve peace, development and prosperity, it was a must to build and consolidate strategic trust, he said.
"Viet Nam has a profound confidence in the bright future of development and co-operation in the region that we are living in.
Yet the trend of increased engagement and competition, particularly by big powers not only offers positive elements but also involves negative risks that require us to take initiative and work together to prevent," Dung said.
The Vietnamese leader noted that the Asia-Pacific region now enjoys dynamic development and is home to the three biggest economies and many emerging ones of the world.
"Here, the trend of multi-layer and multi-sector co-operation and linkages is evolving vigorously and becomes the prevailing one of the day.
This is quite a promising prospect for us all," he said.
He mentioned the unpredictable developments in the Korean Peninsula;
sovereignty and territorial disputes from the East China Sea to the East Sea that were threatening regional peace and security and causing deep concerns to the international community.
"Somewhere in the region, there have emerged preferences for unilateral might, groundless claims, and actions that run counter to international law and stem from imposition and power politics," he said.

Thủ tướng Nguyễn Tấn Dũng phát biểu quan trọng tại địa chỉ 12 Shangri-La Đối thoại ngày hôm qua kêu gọi các quốc gia để xây dựng lòng tin chiến lược vì hòa bình, hợp tác và thịnh vượng ở khu vực châu Á-Thái Bình Dương khu vực.
Dũng cho biết khu vực Đông Nam Á nói riêng và khu vực châu Á-Thái Bình Dương nói chung là chiến trường khốc liệt và một lần chia rẽ sâu sắc trong nhiều thập kỷ, vì vậy toàn bộ khu vực từ lâu đã tổ chức một mong muốn cháy bỏng về hòa bình.
Để đạt được hòa bình, phát triển và thịnh vượng, đó là phải xây dựng và củng cố lòng tin chiến lược, ông nói.
"Việt Nam có một niềm tin sâu sắc vào tương lai tươi sáng của sự phát triển và hợp tác trong khu vực mà chúng ta đang sống.
Tuy nhiên, xu hướng tăng sự tham gia và cạnh tranh, đặc biệt là các cường quốc lớn không chỉ cung cấp các yếu tố tích cực mà còn liên quan đến những rủi ro tiêu cực mà đòi hỏi chúng ta phải chủ động và làm việc với nhau để ngăn chặn ", ông Dũng nói.
Các nhà lãnh đạo Việt Nam ghi nhận rằng khu vực châu Á-Thái Bình Dương bây giờ thích phát triển năng động và là nhà của ba nền kinh tế lớn nhất và nhiều trường mới nổi những người của thế giới.
"Ở đây, xu hướng của nhiều lớp, đa lĩnh vực hợp tác và liên kết được phát triển mạnh mẽ và trở thành một trong những phổ biến nhất trong ngày.
Điều này là khá triển vọng đầy hứa hẹn cho tất cả chúng ta, "ông nói.
