• Anti-inflammatory activity
α-Bisabolol operates firstly on releasing certain inflammation mediators like cytokine IL-1 and leukotriene B4 [1, 3]. These two molecules are involved in the reactions related to skin hypersensitivity.
α-Bisabolol acts at the source of the inflammation by restricting the release of these pro-inflammatory mediators. α-Bisabolol has the ability to effectively soothe skin irritations [4]
• Antioxidant activity
It also interferes in the production of ROSs (Reactive Oxygen Species), disrupting the chain of reactions that results in free radicals. Bisabolol therefore has an antioxidant activity [5].
It brings about a reduction in the intensity of redness and the feeling of discomfort (redness, itching, tightness, tingling) [2, 6]. α-Bisabolol thus reduces the erythemas induced by UV rays or temperature [2].
