Conclusions
Observing the results acquired, it is possible to conclude that
the gamma transmission technique was efficient for scale detection
in pipes used for oil exploration.
The limitation of the single channel analyzer window, which
restricted the counts only to the energy peak of the isotope, was of
extreme importance for the quantification process, since the
attenuation coefficients are then dependent only on the material.
By adopting this procedure, the influence of the scattered radiation
did not have to be taken into account, thus increasing the precision
of the measurement.
Since the system adapts itself to the geometry of the pipe,
the distance between the source and the detector is usually small,
since it is bound only by the external diameter of the pipe.
