This was frustrating as hell. They’d dropped their language, and gone out for proper dates for more than a month. Sure, there was handholding and goodnight kisses, and sometimes, she could feel his need as strongly as hers, but they did NOTHING more.

“Stupid jerk made of steel,” she grimaced, “damned if I don’t do something about this. Argh, I’m going crazy!”

That lunk must be overthinking again.

She respected the fact that he’d worked so hard to get where he was, but they both knew that he was unlikely to rise much further, even if he slogged his ass off to get those paper qualifications. He never said much, but when he did, it was measured and concise. He was such a doofus too – his jokes were so deadpan she sometimes couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not.

“Goodnight, see you tomorrow.” She pulled away from him reluctantly. It was always hard to say goodbye.

Myung-joo walked up to her second floor apartment and unlocked the door. She had inherited it from her grandmother, and though it was old and not very big, she preferred staying there at the weekend. Too many prying eyes at the barracks.

She fumbled around in the dark, her mobile useless as a light source. Should’ve charged it before I went out. Damn damn damn damn damn.

“Is everything ok? I didn’t see the light come on from downstairs,” his voice rang out at the door.

“Yeah… no… I think there’s a short circuit. The board is in the storeroom. Trying to get there.”

“Hang on, I’ll go with you.” He switched on the light on his phone and she led the way
