Preface
This module presents main issues surrounding Design for the Environment. Every product must be dealt in some way at the end of its life. Main approaches (reduction, reuse, remanufacture,recycling, and disposal) will be discussed. Each method will be explained cost wise and environment wise. Examples and case studies are included. Sustainable design as a method is also discussed.

The target audience for this module includes 1st and 2nd year undergraduate engineering students.
The objective of this module is to introduce the students the following topics:
1. The extent of environmental impact
2. Methods of end of life treatment
3. Design issues for DFE
The context of the module is intended to be easily understandable to 1st year undergraduate engineering students. Internet references are used extensively.
