The United States has increased pressure on Pakistan to release an American diplomat involved in a shooting incident. The incident left three Pakistani men dead The United States denies the incident will affect talks later this month among the United States, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The American embassy in Islamabad told VOA Tuesday that the United States has not suspended talks with Pakistan. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry dismissed any concerns about harming ties between the two countries. The shooting took place in late January in Lahore.
American officials say the diplomat shot and killed two Pakistani men in defence during a robbery attempt. A third Pakistani man was killed by a diplomatic vehicle. The United States says the diplomat is protected from legal action. Pakistan says the diplomat will be tried in court.
