Before moving further into the selection process, many organizations prefer to do ascreening interview of those applicants that appear qualified based on informationsubmitted on their résumé and application. Screening interviews are usuallyconducted by telephone. The interviewer asks a few straightforward questionsto determine the candidate’s job qualifications and appropriateness for the openposition. If it is determined that the applicant is not appropriate for the position, theinterviewer may refer the candidate to another open position within the organizationif there is something available that matches the applicant’s skills. If there is nothingelse available and the candidate is obviously unqualified for the position, the processends there, saving both the candidate and the organization the time and expense ofgoing further into the selection process.
