IntroductionThis User Manual will provide an overview of the Honda Motorcycle Communication Interface(MCI) that is used together with Honda diagnostic software, Motorcycle Communication System(MCS). Everything contained in this manual is based on the latest product information available atthe time of publication. The right is reserved to make changes at any time without notice.1.1 ForewordThe MCI and MCS are designed for use by trained service personnel to diagnose and repairmotorcycle electronic systems. Every attempt has been made to provide complete and accuratetechnical information based on factory service information available at the time of publication. Toincrease their effectiveness with the MCI, users should familiarize themselves with the format andinformation contained in this guide. The MCI and MCS provide the following capabilities:• Data Transfer and Control Module Update• Future expandability, including diagnostic applications of MCS.1.2 Location of Vehicle Data Link Connector (DLC)For the location of vehicle DLC connector refer to the Service Manual for the vehicle being tested.1.3 CAUTIONS AND NOTICESIn this User Guide:• CAUTION: indicates there is a possibility of injury to you or other people.• NOTICE: indicates the possibility of damage to the component being repaired.Operating PrecautionsCAUTIONWhen performing any checks with the engine running in an enclosed space such as a garage, besure there is proper ventilation. Never inhale exhaust gases; they contain carbon monoxide – acolorless, odorless, extremely dangerous gas which can cause unconsciousness or death.NOTICE• Make sure all cables and adapters are firmly connected before starting to use the MCI.• Always read the instructions completely before attempting a new procedure.1.4 FCC COMPLIANCE (only USA)This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device,pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protectionagainst harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment.This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not installed and usedin accordance with the instruction manual, it may cause harmful interference to radiocommunications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmfulinterference, in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his or her ownexpense.41.5 Taking the Product Back and Recycling (only EU)Applicable to product that is sold into the European Union, the European Union has passed adirective called Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, or WEEE for short, to ensure thatsystems are setup throughout the EU for the collection, treating and recycling of electronic waste.This ensures that the devices are recycled in a resource-saving way representing no danger tohealth or the environment. The WEEE symbol is shown at the right. The WEEE symbol on theproduct or its packaging shows that the product must not be disposed of as residual garbage. Theuser is obliged to collect the old devices separately and return them to the WEEE take-backsystem for recycling1.6 LIMITED LIABILITYVetronix does not warrant that the operations of the Vetronix software will be uninterrupted or errorfree. In no event shall Vetronix be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequentialdamages (including lost profit) whether based on warranty, contract, tort or any other legal theory.1.7 WARRANTY The MCI is warranted by Vetronix Corporation to the original consumer to be free of defects inmaterial and workmanship for 12 months, 36 months or 60 months depending on the type of
warranty contract that was purchased. Contact your local Honda distributor regarding an extended
warranty.
The warranty period is from the date of shipment to the original consumer. If a product is found to
be defective during this period, the product can be returned to an authorized Vetronix service
center and it will be repaired or replaced without charge. This warranty does not cover any part
that has been abused, altered, used for a purpose other than that which it was intended or used in
a manner inconsistent with instructions regarding its use, including, but not limited to the following:
• Damage due to improper product operation or product modification.
• Damage due to use of non-Vetronix supplied cables and accessory items, or unauthorized
peripheral equipment.
• Damage due to dropping or other severe impact to the product.
• Damage due to exposure to excessive temperatures.
• Damage or loss that may occur during shipping.
• This warranty also excludes all incidental or consequential damage.
2. MCI Overview
A description of the MCI hardware and VCI Manager, software that manages the MCI hardware,
are included in the following sections.
2.1 MCI Hardware
The MCI is used by professional technicians as an aid in diagnosing and repairing motorcycle
electrical and electronic systems. The MCI is designed to connect the vehicle to the MCS which
then functions though the MCI for Data Transfer and Control Module Update.

The microSD card, Reset tab, USB connector for Wi-Fi interface (optional) and USB miniB
connector are located under the bottom boot, which must be unscrewed to be removed. USB miniB
connector, used to connect PC, is accessible by opening Door of the bottom boot.

2.2 MCI FEATURES
? Universal Serial Bus (USB)
The MCI has a fixed USB configuration. This ensures that the MCI can always be connected to a
single PC running the VCI Manager.
? DLC Cable
Communication between the MCI and the vehicle’s electronic systems is through the DLC cable
that is connected to the top center of the MCI.
? LCD Display
The MCI has a high-resolution monochromatic LCD display.
? Keypad
The MCI has an eight-key keypad.
