Topping up your oil[gallery:8]Difficulty rating: 2/5If you find the oil is below the minimum marker on your dipstick, it’ll need topping up. You must ensure you use the correct grade and type of oil. Grades of oil usually have names like 10W-30, and synthetic and non-synthetic types are available. You can find the correct grade of oil to use for your car in the handbook – remember, using anything other than the manufacturer’s recommended oil can invalidate a car’s warranty.When the engine is cool, locate the oil filler cap on top of the engine. Twist and remove, ensuring no debris falls inside. Using a funnel, slowly pour the oil in, waiting a few moments for it to percolate into the depths of the engine. Check the level using the dipstick and pour more oil in if necessary. The level should be just below the maximum mark, but it’s vital you don’t overfill. Replace the dipstick and screw the oil cap back on tightly.
