New Psychoactive Substances (NPS)
Although the abuse of NPS in Thailand has not yet been popular , Thailand has announced the following substances to be the Narcotic Drugs Category I under the Narcotics Act B.E. 2522 (1979):
- Benzylpiperazine (BZP) and Trifluorophenylmethylpiperazine (TFMPP) since 27 Mach 2012
- Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) and Methylone since 30 April 2013
- Meta-Chlorophenylpiperazine (mcPP) since 30 October 2013
Benzylpiperazine (BZP) has found to be abused in certain areas of Thailand in 2009-2010. It was illegally produced and sold on the Internet in forms of tablet, capsule, and powder. It may be abused as Party Pill or Club drug by sole abuse of BZP or with TFMPP. This substance was popular among teenagers. In 2009, 4 BZP seizures were made with 28 tablets weighed 10,290 grams.
