Practical hermeneutics is an interpretational activity. It is a method which, according to Dilthey and Schleiermacher, aims at understanding anindividual, an author, better than he understands himself. It is a methodwhich, according to Stigliano (1989), aims at challenging what is taken forgranted, by turning it into a question. To the mathematician it is anintriguing method of assessment, because it is based on the interpretationof texts, that is qualitative data, rather than on quantitative data (Gadamar,1988, Ricoeur, 1980-85).
