Ding How (1958) reported that the genus Rhtzophora, especially Rhizophoramucroma, generally grows well on mud flats. But R apidata prefers moderatelysofi mud and R stybsa grows better along coastal coral reef with sandy soil. He alsoconcluded that soil type is one of the main factors for mangrove zonation. Macnaeand Klak (1962) reported that Rhizophora in Mozambique grows in rather wetclay-loam.
