1.6.4 Engage in Active Learning The key to critical thinking lies in creating conditions for participation rather than passivity, and in providing opportunities for the emotional engagement with materials (Mayer,1986). Teacher can use various tools like games, simulations, role-plays, stories in class rooms, field visits, group discussions, problem- solving and enquiry approach etc. which bring about maximum learner participation and foster critical thinking. Experiential methods offer learners opportunities to practice critical thinking processes such as problem definition, forming hypothesis, collecting and organizing information, analyzing information, synchronizing drawing conclusions ,formulating possible solutions and identifying opportunities for action .Learners also practice interpersonal and communication skills ,including oral and written communication ,group cooperation ,leadership, conflict resolution and others. Bansal (2011) examined the effectiveness of environment based Experiential Learning on secondary school students’ Critical Thinking Skills. Results indicated significant gains in interpretation, inference, analysis, evaluation, self regulation and total critical thinking skills as a result of Experiential Learning programme.
