"Vậy bạn?""Mẹ?"Presley’s voice was quiet and shaky, and Camila immediately knew something was wrong. She sat up quickly, sitting on the edge of the bed and holding out her hands. “What is wrong, little flower?”It was as if a switch was flipped. As soon as Presley confirmed it was Camila, she quickly hurried into the room and stood hesitantly in front of her mother. “I miss them.”Camila didn’t need to ask to know what the girl was talking about. There was a long pause of silence, and she glanced over at Lauren’s sleeping figure. She wasn’t sure what to say.Presley didn’t notice the hand that slipped out from beneath the blankets. Camila did, though. Because when she felt something squeeze her hand, she looked down and realized Lauren hadn’t been asleep. Lauren didn’t move, though, and Camila slowly realized her wife was telling her to do what she had to do.So Camila nodded softly, hopping to her feet and pulling on a pair of pajama pants. Presley watched in confusion as the older girl tugged on a pair of boots. “What’re you doing?”“I… I have something to show you,” Camila said softly, standing by the doorway and holding out her hand. Confused, but trusting in her, Presley took a few shy steps forward and allowed Camila to lead her down the dark hallway, down the stairs, and to the front door.“Where are we going?” the tiny girl asked, standing on one foot as Camila helped her slip on her shoes. Camila paused, glancing up at her and giving her a soft smile.“For a walk,” Camila nodded. Presley didn’t question her, hearing the sincerity in her voice. And soon, the smaller girl was following behind Camila as they made their way down the sidewalk. Camila seemed to know exactly where she was going, and Presley followed behind her curiously. The streetlights lit the way for most of their walk, but soon Camila veered off onto a smaller pathway and retrieved her phone flashlight from her pocket to light the way. Presley stuck close to her side, holding onto the sleeve of Camila’s hoodie and looking around curiously. It was hard to see where they were going, but Camila eventually found what she was looking for. Presley watched as the older girl knelt down and brushed off two plaques on the ground. Shivering, Camila turned to Presley and shone the light on the graves. “I miss them, too.”It took Presley a few seconds to understand what Camila had meant. Even Camila was taken by surprise when the tiny girl practically lept into her arms and held her in a tight hug. They remained like that for a few moments before Presley pulled away to sit down, carefully reaching out and feeling the cold marble of the graves. She turned to Camila, tilting her head to the side slightly. “I bet they were super awesome,” she nodded. “Cause’ they made you super awesome, too.”“They would have loved you, too,” Camila laughed softly. Moments later, Presley was crawling into her lap, huddling in her arms to stay warm. Camila held her gently, hoping she’d done the right thing by bringing Presley here.“You should sing em’ a song,” Presley whispered, breaking the silence between them. Camila looked down at her, confused.“Me?” She raised an eyebrow. “Why?”“Because you’re a good singer. And I like it when you sing in the car,” Presley giggled, looking up at the girl hopefully. How was Camila supposed to say no to that?“Maybe just once,” Camila sighed softly, giving in.
