People often ask about loading the videos on their iPhone or iPad for portable
viewing. Apple makes things difficult and requires you to use iTunes to sync
videos to your device. If you have a newer device it should be able to load and
play the videos without creating a device specific version. To find out if this is the
case follow steps 1-5 and then skip to steps 11-14. If you can sync the videos to
your device then you are done. Otherwise you will need to create a new version
of the videos so the device will play them. For this option follow all the steps

5. The video file(s) will now appear in your Movies>Home Videos list. The video(s) can be
played in iTunes but may need to create a new version before syncing to older devices. Go
to step 11 to sync without creating a new version.
6. Highlight the video (or videos) for which you will create a device specific version.
7. Go to File>Create New Version>Create iPod or iPhone Version or Create iPad or Apple TV
Version.
8. FYI - The conversion time can take from minutes to hours depending on how many videos
you are converting. To convert all the videos at once you may have to leave it running ove
night.
9. When the conversion is complete each video will now appear twice in your Movies Library,
the original and the iPhone/iPad conversion. If you right click on a video and go to Get
Info>File you can identify which is the iPhone/iPad version by looking at the dimensions.
The iPhone/iPad versions will have been downsized to smaller pixel dimensions. Only
converted versions will be loaded on to your older device.
10.If you don't intend to play the full resolution videos in iTunes you can now remove the full
resolution video files from your iTunes Movie Library.
11.Plug in the iPad or iPhone to your computer and open it in iTunes.
12.In the Movies tab for the device you can choose to Automatically Include All Movies or you
can uncheck the Automatically Include box and manually select the videos you want to
sync.
13.Now click Sync or Apply at the bottom of the iTunes page to sync to your device.
14.Once the sync is complete the video(s) will appear in the Videos app on your device.
