Relationship between job stress and job performanceJob stress is the employees’ feeling of failure from the working environment and it is more towards a personal reaction as the level of job stress perceived differs from every individual (Montgomery et al., 1996). Sparks and Cooper (1999) found that various facets of work such as job ambiguity, job conflict, and job overload can lead to job stress. On the other hand, job performance is defined as the degree of accomplishment of tasks, responsibilities, and objectives by Hersey and Blanchard (1993). In general, there are three ways to measure performance, which are through the level of output or sales, performance appraisal by a third party, and self-evaluation (Porter and Lawler, 1968).Job stress has an inverted-U relationship with job performance since a reasonable level of stress will yield an optimal level of performance (Leung et al., 2005). AbuAlRub (2004) also found that job stress has an inverted-U relationship with job performance as employees with lower or greater feeling of job stress are said to perform much better than those who have moderate feeling of job stress.
