• Dental asymmetries due to congenital absence of teeth, usually the lateral incisor or second bicuspid, are treated orthodontically. The treatment mechanics usually involve differential molar distalization, asymmetric extractions, and use of elastics in various configurations like Class II on one side and Class III on the other with or without anterior oblique elastics. Abnormalities in the transverse dimension caused by disproportionate crown widths are corrected by a combination of asymmetric treatment mechanics and prosthodontic restorations or composite build -¬ ups to restore normal proportions.
