sugar cane is grown in hot countries like Cuba and the west indies,where there is a heavy rainfall. At harvest time the cane is cut as close to the ground as the possible in order to keep all the juice, or sap, in each long stalk.The cane is then taken to a mill, where it is cut into a lot of small pieces . Next the sap is squeezed out by a heavy rollers. The sap is cleaned and then boiled until crystals appear. It is necessary, however, to separate these brown crystals from the sap . This is done by putting the mixture into a huge machine containing a drum which revoles at high speeds. The sap spins out of the machine ,leaving the crystals behind.
