Inflorescence induction and flowering In vitro: The 2-4cm plantlets were transferred to the flower-inducingculture. On the appropriate medium, inflorescence stalkswere observed in the induced axillary shoots or theydeveloped from the shoot apex of the plantlets within 4-8weeks (Fig. 1c). Some inflorescence stalks producednormal flower buds, which eventually developed intonormal flowers (Fig. 1d). Other buds developed intoabnormal flowers, which were morphologically distorted(Fig. 1e). Histological analysis of the inflorescence apexrevealed that the apex contained several floret primordia(Fig. 2a). The longitudinal sectioning of a normal floralbud showed the development of a column with normalstigma and pollen (Fig. 2b).
