Amorphous samplesThe GPR values (Figure 2) and the glucose yield values(Figure 3) for regenerated amorphous cellulose (RAC)were rather similar to the values of the Sigmacell Type20 cellulose that the RAC was derived from. This suggeststhat the crystallinity of the Sigmacell Type 20 cellulose(Table 2) was not an obstacle for the enzymatichydrolysis. Apart from conversion of crystalline celluloseto amorphous, treatment with acid may potentially alsoresult in hydrolysis which could give decreased cellulosechain length, but evidently this did not lead to improvedhydrolysis of RAC compared to Sigmacell Type 20 underthe experimental conditions studied.
