Abstract Because of its high information intensity, strongconsistency and convenient visualization features,building information modelling (BIM) has receivedwidespread attention in the fields of construction andproject management. However, due to large amounts ofinformation, high integration, the need for resourcesharing between various departments, the longtime-span of the BIM application, challenges relating todata interoperability, security and cost all slow down theadoption of BIM. This paper constructs a BIM cloudstorage concept system using cloud storage, an advancedcomputer technology, to solve the problem of mass dataprocessing, information security, and cost problems inthe existing application of BIM to full life-cyclemanagement. This system takes full advantage of thecloud storage technique. Achievements are reached infour areas of BIM information management, involvingsecurity and licensing management, file management,work process management and collaborativemanagement. The system expands the time and spacescales, improves the level of participation, and reducesthe cost of BIM. The construction of the BIM cloudstorage system is one of the most important directions ofthe development of BIM, which benefits the promotionand further development of BIM to better serveconstruction and engineering project management.
