There was some bad news for democracy at the weekend, with Tajikistan approving measures to allow its president, Emomali Rahmon, to rule the nation indefinitely.The former Soviet state, which has recently been trying to enforce a ban on beards, was already one of the world’s most constrained countries, according to the nonpartisan organisation, Freedom House, which gave it a score of just 16 out of 100 in its latest Freedom in the World report.
