Several papers have been published on the subject of WDHSdynamic simulation. In [3] a no-storage WHDS is simulated againstseveral perturbations, among them the connection of aWTG to theDG isolated grid. In [4], the modelled WDHS includes a variablespeed flywheel energy storage based on hydrostatic transmission.In [5], the simulated high penetration WDHS has a DGwith a clutchwhich allows disengaging the Diesel Engine (DE) from the synchronousmachine (SM) when the generated wind power exceedsthe consumed load power. This paper focuses on the dynamicsimulation of a medium penetration WDHS and the dynamicimprovement that produces to include a BESS in the system. Afterthis introductory Section 1, this article is organized as follows: Section2 presents the WDHS architecture discussed in this articlealong with its control requirements, Section 3 presents the controlsystem that has been used, Section 4 shows the modelling ofthe WDHS components, Section 5 presents the WDHS responseagainst different perturbations and finally Section 6 emphasizesthe effectiveness of using the BESS.
