A small-sized, much branched, evergreen perennial tree with low, spreading crown 6–12 m;
grows to a height of 2–10(−15) m with a brown or grey bark, smooth to rough with longitudinal fissures and a deep root system. Leaves simple, alternate, coriaceous, glabrous, narrowly to broadly obovate, sometimes broadly oblong or elliptic, 10–18 × 8–15 cm, apically rounded or
shallowly emarginate or shorly acuminate, entire, cuneate or obtuse at base at time attenuate or auriculate, prominently veined with 9–14 pairs of widely spreading lateral veins, short petiolate, reddish bronze when young and dark green when mature (Plate 4). The inflorescence is a subcorymbose, terminal panicle,10–25 cm long, branched, sparsely puberulous to densely puberulous toward the apices of rachises, commonly bearing male, female and hermaphroditic flowers which are first white or pale green with red or pink lines at anthesis and truning dark red after fertilization. The male flowers are the most numerous, 5-merous and usually bear 1 exserted stamen and 9 small inserted ones and with a small pistillode, 0.3–1 mm long.

Các hoa đực là đông nhất, 5-merous và thường phải chịu 1 exserted nhị và 9 nhỏ chèn vào những người thân và với một pistillode nhỏ, dài 0,3-1 mm.
