Quick Catfish Tip #5: The "Blood Candy" Secret

For this one, you want to use "candy shad".

These are shad that are half grown...anywhere between 4-8 inches long in most cases.

Fish them ALIVE.

Now...hook them through the lips, and then go back by the end of the tail and put a small slit through the flesh with a felit knife.

This will cause them to bleed very, very slowly. Just a small slit not too deep.

This blood will leave a scent trail...and the catfish will hammer it.

Another method is to use a dead shad of the same size.

Knick them up a little with thee filet knife, and hook him through the head.

BONUS TIP: When a catfish takes shad or blue gill or anything like that, the first thing that happens is it turns it around so that it's headed head first to the gullet.

When it gets to the back of the mouth, a catfish has what they call a crusher plate.

This is where they crush the fish to kill it.

At the same time they're doing a scaling operation.

Most people ain't aware of this but you can see it in some big aquariums and you can watch this action and they'll crush this shad.

Then they'll exhale real hard and quick kind of keeping their mouth almost closed and they're blowing out all kinds of scales and things that are kind of hard to digest.

So that very first hit that you see from a catfish is probably not one that you want to set the hook on.

He might have his mouth open a little bit.

You might yank the bait right out of there.

So...instead of setting the hook at 1 or 2 seconds after you feel something, do it at 5 seconds.

You'll catch more.

So she put little Tom in the dress to keep him warm... and he paid dearly for this.

Daddy Burt, in a booming voice said... "Well lookie here! It's little Suzie Minuka!"

...and...

"WAAAAAA!" Tom cried and cried!

The story is still told today, and even though this email doesn't do it justice, I figured you might get a chuckle out of it.
