Hi,Got a dog bite in Bangkok classi

Hi,

Got a dog bite in Bangkok classified as 1.5 on the I - III scale so some saliva, no blood etc.

Got told I need 5 shots, they gave me Rabipur.

Day 7 today and I'm in Kanchanaburi.

They do NOT have Rabipur just Abhayrab & Verorab

I took a shot of VERORAB today. I went to 2 hospitals both told me Rabipur, Abhayrab and VeroRab do the same thing. That said, I have searched online and it appears Rabipur is a PCEC or PCECV while VeroRab is a PVRV or whatnot?

I am ignorant to this, I've searched online forever and I don't know what to think... Both Doctors said it's the same thing but switching meds like this kinda freaks me out. Has anyone here heard of taking different types of medications instead of finishing one the whole way through?

I did notice on the labels they are made of a different strain Rabipur is strain flury LEP while VERORAB is wistar rabies pm/wi13801503-3m strain.... That said I never had a blood test so how do they know what strain I need?

I dunno, kinda freaking, do I go back to Bangkok tomorrow and get a shot or what?

Any advice / thoughts appreciated.

I usually hang out on the Health Branch, which is really the best place to ask these kinds of questions.

I just spent some time researching this. All those vaccines are made by using tissue cultures. Verorab & Rabipur are approved by WHO. Older vaccines were made with brain tissue and WHO no longer recommends their use, as they were not as effective and could cause serious side effects.

The main difference between Rabipur & Verorab is that Rabipur is made from chick embryo cells and Verorab from vero cells which were originally isolated from an African green monkey. Your immune system doesn't care about that. Those docs are correct; you should be OK.
