1. Introduction
================

This README file contains release notes for the bootable Intel(R)
Processor Identification Utility, describing any problems or
issues that were known at the time of shipment.

2. Release Notes
=================

2.1 Processors supported by this utility

The bootable Intel Processor Identification Utility
supports the following Intel processors:

* Intel Core(TM)2 processors
* Intel Core processors
* Intel Xeon(R) processors
* Intel Pentium(R) 4 processors
* Intel Pentium M processors
* Intel Celeron(R) D processors
* Intel Celeron processors based on Pentium 4 and Pentium M cores
* Intel Atom(TM) processors
* Dual-Core Intel Pentium processors
* Dual-Core Intel Celeron processors


Older Intel Celeron processors, and other older Intel processors
not listed above, are not supported by the Intel Processor
Identification Utility. To identify older Intel processors,
download the Intel(R) Frequency ID Utility from the
following Intel web site:
http://support.intel.com/support/processors/tools/frequencyid/.

2.2 Processor number

Intel uses processor numbers to enable consumers to quickly
differentiate among comparable processors and to analyze or take
into account more than one processor feature during the
selection process. Processor numbers should be used to
differentiate between the relative overall features within a
certain processor family (e.g. within the Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4
processor family) and within a numbering sequence (e.g. 550 vs.
540). Processor numbers are not a measurement of performance.

2.3 Hyper-Threading Technology

Hyper-Threading Technology requires a computer system with an
Intel Pentium(R) 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading
Technology and an HT Technology enabled chipset, BIOS and
operating system. Performance will vary depending on the
specific hardware and software you use. See

including details on which processors support HT Technology.

2.4 Intel(R) 64 Architecture

64-bit computing on Intel architecture requires a computer system
with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers
and applications enabled for Intel(R) 64 architecture. Performance
will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations.
Consult with your system vendor for more information.

2.5 Intel(R) Virtualization Technology

Intel Virtualization Technology requires a computer system with
a processor, chipset, BIOS, enabling software and/or operating
system, device drivers and applications designed for this
feature. Performance will vary depending on your configuration.
Contact your vendor for more information.

3. Installation Instructions
=============================

Follow these instructions to prepare a bootable diskette
containing the bootable Intel Processor Identification Utility and
to run the utility.

1) Save the file downloaded from the Intel web site to your
hard drive.
2) Run the downloaded file to extract all setup files.
3) Run the setup.bat file while a blank 1.44 MB floppy disk is
in the drive.
4) Restart the computer with the floppy disk in the drive. The
utility will run automatically.
