PREPARATION FOR SPEAKING SECTION
Part 1: Exchanging personal information (1-2 minutes). Each candidate introduces
himself/herself or is asked to present basic personal information which is followed by several
questions from the examiners.
Hello Sir/Ma’am.
My full name is…..[ex: Sơn Tùng M-TP]. I was born in 1986. I was born in Hue. Now I am living in
Phu Nhuan district, Hue City. My house is close to….[ex, Stadium of Freedom]. I am the 3
rd
year student in
University of…... I will graduate in 2 years…. It is nice to meet you.
Part 2: The individual talk (3-4 minutes). Each candidate selects one topic from the given topic
collection for which he/she has to present in 2 minutes.
1. What is an ideal job? Talk about the benefits you have in such a job.
My ideal job is a Marketing officer for a business company in consumer goods field because I have a
lot of experience in marketing and have deep understanding of consumer goods. If I were a marketing
officer in future, I could spend spare time on taking care of my family and work 8 hours per day and 5 days
per week only. I also could get a stable salary. In addition, I could work in a creative working environment
and the job does match with my aptitude.
2. What are some advantages and disadvantages of traveling?
I think that traveling has many advantages. It may help you to reduce stress and avoid dullness of life.
You also may enjoy a lot of delicious dishes and visit many beautiful places and enrich your knowlege of
cultures of many countries in the world. However, travelling has some disadvantages. Tourism cost is still
rather expensive. It causes environmental pollution due to garbage thrown away by tourists. I have just
thought some of advantages and disadvantages as just mentioned.
3. Describe a memorable trip you have had recently.
My last holiday was my longest holiday. I spend the holiday with my husband. It was a honeymoon

We selected Đà Nẵng for our honeymoon where is famous with beautiful beach. We stayed there for
four days and we lived in a big hotel by the beach. The weather was very nice. In the morning, we went to
the beach to watch the sunrise. Then we swam in the clear blue water and played with gentle waves. In the
afternoon, we rode around the road along the coastline by bicycles. I also enjoyed some seafood and took a
lot of photos. In the evening, we went café and saw the Han River bridge. In the middle of the ni ght, it
swings to allow shipping traffic to pass along the river. It’s surprised with me because it’s first time I has
seen a swing bridge
After those days, we came back to Hanoi. The holiday had a strong impression on me and I really had
many memories with my honeymoon.
4. What benefits do people get from doing exercise and playing sports?
The benefits that people get from doing exercise and playing sports are numerous. It helps you to
reduce possible diseases. Doing exercise and playing sport often makes you to get a feeling of enough
energy and increase withstanding. It also helps you to have a healthy spirit and reduce stress quickly and
effectively. If you often do exercise and play sports, you will get a heathly and happy life.
5. What should people do to keep fit and stay healthy?
In my opinion, if people want to keep fit and stay healthy, people should do exercise 40 minutes
everyday. Besides that, people should eat properly by eating a lot of vegetables and fruits, drinking a lot of
water and limit to eat oily foods. People shouldn’t use stimulants such as alcohol, wine, cigarette, etc. It is
better to balance between work and entertainment and to avoid work continuously without taking a rest. If

people do as my advices, people will keep fit and stay healthy.
6. What is your typical day? Describe your plan for the coming week.
My typical day starts from 7 a.m. I go to work after having breakfast for 30 minutes. The distance
from my house to working place is 5km. I take about 20 minutes to go there. When I am at working place, I
open the shop first and sweep the floor of the shop then. My job is a book seller and manager of the shop.
The shop is closed at 6 p.m. I spend my evenining time for family such as walking with my husband or
watching T.V. I go to bed at 10 p.m. That is all of my daily work. There are not so many changes in my plan
for the coming week compared with this week. But I schedule to go to cinema for watching film with my
husband on next Saturday and to visit my grandparent on next Sunday.
7. What do you think of the traffic in your area / city? Talk about your favorite means of
transport and why you like it.
I like motorbike Lead of Honda very much because it looks to be very elegant and energy efficient
with large space for keeping things such as motorbike helmet, wallets, etc. and various colors. Going by
motorbike is more active in time than going by bus. I can keep the motorbike in my house instead of hiring a
place for car parking. The motorbike is manufactured by a prestigious company and suitable to my payment
capacity.

8. What are some good things and bad things about the area / city you are living in?
I am living in Tu Liem District, Hanoi City. The area that I am living has good security and friendly
neighbors. In this area, living cost is low, road is wide and there are a lot of playgrounds for children. It is
near E Hospital which is very convenient for medical examination and treatment. However, there are some
bad things such as polluted air due to dust and noise from apartment buildings where are under construction.
The population density in this area is crowded, traffic jam often occurs in rush hours.
9. Describe a happy memory in your life.
A happy memory in my life is a memory of my friend who taught me how to cook 5 years ago. At that
time, I was 22 years old. I am clumsy and did not know how to cook and the dishes cooked by me were very
bad. Therefore, she taught me to cook. At the beginning of learning, I felt this was rather difficult. However,
I improved gradually. That time was really a happy and joyful time for me. Now I am pround of having
cooked many delicious dishes for family. My husband likes dishes cooked by me so much. I am grateful for
my friend but I can not contact her because she left her house to the United States 4 years ago.
10. Give some advice on what a foreign visitor should and should not do while traveling in
Vietnam.
I will give some advice to a tourist when he goes travelling in Vietnam. I say, It is now summer in
Vietnam, the average degree is about 28-35 oC. So, It is quite hot and you should wear cool outfit. When
you visit a pagoda or a temple, you should choose a very discreet, polite clothes which might show your
respect. You had better not go too far away from the tour guide in order not to get lost. and you should not
travel in festival season because of the crowd, high cost, unqualified services and traffic jam

11. Talk about your important changes in your life in the last few years.
I have graduated from National Economics Univery since 2010. There have been many changes in
stature, professional qualification, job and marital status for 3 years. I have become much fatter since I
graduated but people commented that I am more beautiful than previously. Now I am taking a master course
in international business management of National Economic University. I will graduate afer 6 months more
and I can fine a job which is better than present job. Since I graduated from the University, I have not gone
to work for any company. At present, I am the owner of a book shop. It was opened last year and business
also has profit. I got married last October. If my friends see me again at this time, they will be surprised at
my changes after 3 years.
