when treatment is discussed, it is usually said if there is a cure. if no cure is known-as in crohn's disease-treatment which may be used to relieve the symptoms and improve the patient's quality of life is described. in many diseases medical therapy only is used, while others require surgery. although crohn's disease has no known cure, many treatments are used to relieve its symptoms. these include antidiarrhoeal, anti- inflammatory, and immunomodulating drugs, broad-spectrum antibiotics and monoclonal antibodies, as well as special diets. however, about 70 of the patients ultimately need an operation to remove diseased section of the intestine.prognosis is a forecast (like in a weather forecast) as to the probable outcome and the prospect of recovery. crohn's disease is rarely cured, but with appropriate medical, and where required, surgical therapy, most patients function well. disease- -related mortality is very low and is tending to decrease.
