I am Vu Manh Cuong, a fourth-year student of class SET09, School of Electronics and Telecommunications, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. I come from Ha Nam, a beautiful village next to Ha Noi capacity. Since I was a little boy, I have had a passion in natural science. It is my desire to understand what underlies and governs nature, to explain such phenomena under the light of meaningful theoretical formulas, and above all, to resolve real-life issues by appropriate interpretations. Since then, the dream of becoming an engineer, who is able to research and control a new technology, has sparked in my heart. Therefore, I chose Hanoi University of Science and Technology to study. After 4 years study period for my bachelor degree, I realize that the most preferable career for me is become a lecturer in university. If become a lecturer, not only I can keep building my dream by research for a new technology, but also my passion could be transfer to thousands of student that have the same dream with me. Hence, I have tried my best to be an outstanding student as a first step of become a lecturer. In my point of view, an outstanding student is the person who not only has good specialized knowledge, but also has social knowledge and soft skills.
Participating in social activities is not easy for a student in university, especially in Hanoi University of Science and Technology, one of the top universities in Vietnam. It took a lot of time and strength to conduct and I used to face with stress when I am not able to manage my time appropriately between study and social activities. However, life is about give and take, participating in social activities taught me such a priceless experiences in mutil-tasking and time management skills which I never can be learnt in university. As an evidence for my efforts, my cumulative point average (CPA) is 3.54, my grade point average (GPA) in 1stand 2nd semester in 2013 are 4.00 and 3.46 respectively. Furthermore, I also honored to receive 5 Encourage Academic Scholarships of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
In social work, I am confident to say that I am a responsible person. As a result, I have earned everyone’s trust and in charge for many important tasks. From 2010 to 2011, I was the secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Class BK2.12. From 2010 to now, I have been a member of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. From 2011 to now, I have been the secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Class SET 09. And From 2011 to now I have been also a key member of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of School of Electronics and Telecommunications, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Through the time of studying and working, I have learnt and achieved many soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, multi-tasking, time management, and self-study. I also recognized more and more about my personal qualities such as sense of responsibility, carefulness in all the works I have to do. Taking part in Youth Union has helped me withstand high pressure at work and adapted quickly to new environments. Furthermore, doing social work has given me chances to help many people. Helping other people was gave me happiness more than I can imagine.
My future plan is to study abroad after graduation; therefore, I have to get a high IELTS score. Having the honor of receiving the Lawrence S. Ting scholarship will be a tremendous help for me to achieve that goal. Specifically, I can afford some better English books or participate in some Advance English courses to improve my English skills. The Lawrence S. Ting Scholarship has helped many generations of students before me to surmount financial obstacles. I hope I can be received that honor, and I can turn my dream into reality.

Tham gia các hoạt động xã hội không phải là dễ dàng cho một sinh viên tại trường đại học, đặc biệt là trong đại học Hà Nội, khoa học và công nghệ, một trong các trường đại học hàng đầu tại Việt Nam. Phải mất rất nhiều thời gian và sức mạnh để thực hiện và tôi sử dụng để phải đối mặt với sự căng thẳng khi tôi không thể để quản lý thời gian của tôi một cách thích hợp giữa nghiên cứu và hoạt động xã hội. Tuy nhiên, cuộc sống là về cho và nhận, tham gia các hoạt động xã hội dạy cho tôi một kinh nghiệm vô giá trong mutil đa tác vụ và kỹ năng quản lý thời gian mà tôi không bao giờ có thể được học ở trường đại học.
