Husband, Brother Charged in Family KillingsBY SAMOEURTH SEAVMENG | JULY 14, 2016A 45-year-old man who fatally beat his wife during a drunken fight at their home in Kompong Chhnang province’s Kuy village did not kill her intentionally, a commune police chief said on Wednesday.Suong Vuth, 45, was arrested on Monday in the death of his wife, Bo Phoan, 47, according to Chim Thon, chief of police in Kompong Leng district’s Da commune.Mr. Vuth slapped his wife’s face, hit her on the upper back and dragged her from their bed, striking her head on its corner, he said.“The husband is always drunk and fought with his wife, but this time, he unintentionally killed his wife,“ Mr. Thon said. “He thought his wife had just fainted.”Mr. Vuth, who was provisionally charged with causing a death under aggravating circumstances, appeared for questioning on Wednesday in the provincial court, said Chhuon Sivin, director of administration at the provincial court. He was detained in the provincial prison on Wednesday pending further questioning. The crime carries a prison sentence of seven to 15 years.In a separate case, a 42-year-old man was arrested in Banteay Meanchey province for beating his brother to death with an iron pipe behind their house in Poipet City, police said.Long Som Oeun was provisionally charged with murdering his younger brother, Long Som Oun, 38, who was killed around midnight on Tuesday, said Thin Sydeth, the Poipet City police chief.
Mr. Som Oeun was mentally ill and was always fighting with his family “for no reason,” Mr. Sydeth said. He was set to appear in the provincial court today for questioning.
