Crime is the word that all of us are so familier with. It happens in every country, everyday. There are many kinds of crimes and among them mass murder is the most horrible one. In December, 2012, a terrific massacre happened in Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, United State which left behind many sorrow and nightmare for both victims’ family as well as for society.
Adam Peter Lanza was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, on April 22, 1992, to Nancy and Peter Lanza, who had married nearly a decade earlier, on June 6, 1981. Adam had one brother, Ryan Lanza, who was six years his senior. Nancy Lanza, a longtime gun ethusiast, reportedly filed for divorce from her husband in December 2008. Thereafter, Peter Lanza reportedly relocated to Stamford, Connecticut, and agreed to pay an annual alimony of $240,000 with periodic increases. Adam Lanza, 16 years old at the time of his parents' divorce, was described early on by classmates as "fidgety" and "deeply troubled." According to some of his friends and family members, he also suffered from Asperger's syndrome. Nobody was allowed into his room, not even to clean, according to the report. It said Lanza also disliked birthdays, Christmas and holidays and did not like to have his hair cut. He was a loner at school and was repelled by crowds and loud noises.

What we do know is that the shooter had significant mental health issues that, while not affecting the criminality of the shooter’s mental state for the crimes or his criminal responsibility for them, did affect his ability to live a normal life and to interact with others, even those to whom he should have been close. Whether this contributed in any way is unknow. The shooter did not recognize or help himself deal with those issues. He had a familiarity with and access to firearms and ammunition and an obsesstion with mass murders, in particular the Columbine shooting.
There is no clear is that on the morning of the December 14,2012, the shooter intentionally committed horrendous crimes, murdering 20 children and 6 adults in a matter of moments, with the ability and intention of killing even more. He committed these heinous acts after killing his own mother. The envidence indicates the shooter planned his actions, including the taking of his own life.
It is equally clear that law enforcement arrived at Sandy Hook Elementary school within minutes of the first shots being fired. They went into the school to save those inside with the knowledge that someone might be waiting to take their lives. It is also clear that the staff of Sandy Hook Elementary school acted heroically in trying to protect the children. The combination saved many children’s lives.
