Receptor Contrast
The contrast of an image is affected by the properties of the receptor used to form
the image. In radiography, the choice of film has a substantial influence on image
contrast. Observers who prefer a high-contrast image tend to select film that yields a
steep characteristic (H–D) curve with high contrast and narrow latitude. Those who
prefer less contrast and wider latitude of exposure choose a film with a more gradual
slope for the characteristic curve.
