Websense Social Responsibility
At Websense, we take our responsibilities as citizens of the global community
seriously, and we encourage our employees to do the same through socially
responsible behavior, respect for the environment, and cultural awareness and
sensitivity. Our approach to corporate responsibility focuses on the following:
Conducting Business in a Socially Responsible and Ethical Manner
Implicit in our philosophy is the importance of strong business ethics and sound
corporate governance. Our Board of Directors sets high standards for the
company’s employees, officers, and directors.
We believe that one of our company’s most valuable assets is its integrity.
Protecting this asset is the job of everyone at Websense. To that end, we have
established a Code of Business Conduct to help our employees comply with the
law and maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct.
The Code does not cover every issue that may arise, but it, and the other sections
of our Employee Handbook, set out basic principles and a methodology that help
guide all employees in the attainment of this common goal.
Additionally, our chief executive officer, senior financial officers, and finance and
accounting personnel hold a special role requiring them to adhere to ethical
conduct and integrity generally. Their responsibilities in this role further include
accurate, fair, and timely reporting of our company’s financial results and condition
and other information we release to the public market and in reports
we file with the SEC. Because of this special role, our chief executive officer, senior
financial officers, and all members of the company’s Finance and Accounting
departments are bound by an additional Code of Ethics. We are also committed
to diversity in the workplace and conduct regular training for all our employees.
Supporting Human Rights/Anti-Censorship
We recognize that some governments restrict access to the Internet by their
citizens. Websense does not sell to governments or Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
that are engaged in government-imposed censorship. Government-mandated
censorship projects will not be engaged by Websense. If Websense does win
business and later discovers that it is being used by a government, or by ISPs
based on government rule, to engage in censorship of the Web and Web content,
we will remove our technology and capabilities from the project.
Websense does, however, allow its products and technology to be used in “global
filtering” projects where the government-mandated policy (1) prohibits minors
from accessing pornography and/or (2) prohibits child pornography. With the
above guidelines in place, an example of an acceptable use would be governmentmandated
blocking of pornography to minors by the ISP. If the government
requires ISPs to block adult content from all users, but permits an adult user
to gain access to that content after providing proof of age, this would be in
compliance with our stated policy. Websense, however, does not engage in any
arrangements with foreign governments (or government-imposed arrangements)
that could be viewed as oppressive of rights.

Protecting the Environment
Websense is committed to protecting the environment in all areas of the company’s
operations. Our software solutions are being deployed in the virtual computing
platforms of our customers, which helps them not only cut costs but reduce their
carbon footprint. Websense appliances also leverage a virtual framework resulting
in a reduction of physical components and lower power consumption. At Websense,
we’re doing our part by using our own cloud-based capabilities, and we’ve moved
much of our infrastructure into the cloud.
In addition, Websense has made recycling a priority, recycling waste that
is generated, and properly disposing of waste that cannot be recycled. The
company also encourages conservation of energy, water, and natural resources
through increased efficiency and introduction of technology that supports these
conservation efforts. To help reduce traffic congestion and the impact of motor
vehicles on our environment, the Websense Commuter Program provides incentives
to employees to use mass transit and carpool to work.
Encouraging Employee Volunteerism
We encourage employees to volunteer to participate in company-sponsored
activities supporting various non-profit agencies. We also encourage our
employees to be active in their communities and are pleased to report that
a significant portion of our employees volunteer their time and resources at
the local, regional, and national level.
