This front view of the furnace shows the door in place. The lower wheel is adjustable in order to keep the door at the proper distance from the gathering port. Use a good quality wheel. All of the steel used is Ye" thick or greater angle iron. The upper wheels are high quality "V" groove wheels with roller bearings. The wheels run smoothly on the lower angle iron. The upper angle iron does not touch the the wheel but is close enough to keep the wheels from jumping the track. It is also far enough away from the heat so that it will not bind. The front of the door should be about as close as possible to the gathering port. The gathering port is the greatest area of heat loss along with the flue. The lower wheels are far from any heat. The upper track should act as your door stop.
The door is made from a heavy-duty castable and is cast in place. There are many door configurations. This is one I have used and find to work quite well.
