Occlusal rests.These are made from 0.036-inch stainless steel wire and are
placed on the mesial and distal pits of the maxillary first premolars (Fig 2a).
The rests are then well-adapted on the mesial and distal surfaces of the first premolars, bent medially toward the palate, and embedded into the acrylic button.
The occlusal rests, which are seated into the occlusal pits, are microetched with a
sandblaster for better bonding.
The top surfaces of the rests can be made flat with rotary discs to avoid premature contact with mandbular teeth, which could lead to bond failure.
