Dear Applicant,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been awarded Stipendium Hungaricum Grant for the

2015/2016 academic year.

You will get free education and accommodation in Hungary, and the Institute provides scholarship

for you within the programme.

The Tempus Public Foundation is sending you a confirmation letter by email these days.

After loading up all documents and confirming that you accept the scholarship, the Balassi Institute

can send you a Decision of Admission by email as well.

You have to start the procedure of visa application at the Hungarian Embassy (Consulate) as soon

as possible, because it takes one month.

Before your arrival we would like to share some important information helping your travel

preparations.

Hungary has a continental climate, with four seasons that replace each other (fall, winter, spring,

summer). When you arrive in the end of summer, the temperature is between 15-25 Celsius

degrees. The temperature gradually decreases during the autumn, it will be around 10 degrees

and we have a cold weather in winter (usually around 0 degrees and -10 Celsius degrees). Warm

sweaters, warm socks, shorts, scarves, hats, boots are required. The weather gradually warms up

from March, and summer is hot (between +25 and +38 Celsius degrees). Budapest is the capital

of Hungary, you will stay and learn in the 3rd district.

A YEAR SCHEDULE

Arrival and moving to the college: between 1 to 7 September 2015.

Registration / enrollment days: 7 and 8 September 2015.

The training starts from: Tuesday 08th September 2015, at 8:00.

You have 5-7 lessons a day on average. In the afternoon and evening there is time to learn the

next day's classes at the Hostel or in the Library.

During the first semester you will learn the Hungarian language, and later specialized subjects

also in Hungarian (Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History - according to the chosen

specialization).

At the end of the semester you have Hungarian language examination, and at the end of the

school year you have to take a final exam from Hungarian language and other vocational subjects.

You have to have entrance exams required by the selected universities / colleges.

The academic lessons can not be missed, perhaps because only authorized administration

or illness.

The school year ends on 30 June 2016. The second half of July probaly you can travel home,

only after 15 July because of some office routines.

ARRIVAL AND OTHER INFORMATION

Arrival and moving to the Student Hostel: between 1 to 7 September 2015.

Its address is 1037 Budapest, (3rd district) Kunigunda út/str. 35. Hungary.

Just in case, we can wait for you at the airport if you write date, time, number of flights at least 4-7

days before your arrival and if you arrive in the daily hours. The transfer from the airport would be

cost-effective, if you arrived in groups, at least in small groups. The taxi cost can be between 5

and 25 Euro per person, depending on the number of persons. Please contact each other and

discuss how to travel together to Hungary.

If you arrive at night, the shuttle must be resolved individually, I can help you in advance, if you

need information.

We recommend that put your money EURO or USD, because it can be changed easily to

Hungarian Forint.

Please bring your Final Exam Certificate, plus 2 copies and the secondary school certificate and

its copy, and also a copy of the passport.

Please also bring most beautiful pictures of your country about landscapes, cities, or a poster, or

a flag. We can use them to create a tableau.

INFORMATION ABOUT STUDENT HOSTEL

Please inform us about arrival time or if you do not ask a place in the Student Hostel as soon as

possible, but the latest last week of August 2015. Contact person is Ms. Matild André

(matild.andre@bbi.hu).

Students are accommodated in triple rooms in the the Student Hostel of Balassi Institute in

Kunigunda Street. Sheets are provided, but bring your own towel. The polite behavior towards

other students and the staff are expected. The Institute excludes students who behave

aggressively. After 11 pm. loud is forbidden. In case of problems you can turn to the person who is

responsible for the floor. The damage inclusive: 1500 HUF (5 EURO) / person / year.

Everyone is self-sufficient in meals. Student Hostel has buffet in the building, Restaurant / canteen

approx. 10 minutes' walk away. There are a kitchens on every level of the Hostel. Necessary

kitchen cookware, cutlery, glasses please bring with you, or you can obtain here. There are

several supermarkets in the area.

Internet access is provided in the computer lab attached to the library, but students can request

their own computer with internet connection in their room, this fee is 1500 HUF (5 EUR)/ person /

month. The ground floor of the building B in the Student Hostel offers free wi-fi service.

SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship will be paid via bank transfer, we ask kindly you to open a bank account at a

Hungarian bank as soon as possible after the arrival and request a tax number from the Hungarian

Tax Office. You can get help at Bank account opening in the Office (B. 51.)

Please note that the monthly stipend, 40,000 HUF does not cover meals and other expenses, only

partly!

The required minimum amount is 80000-90000 HUF (250-300 USD). If the sender country does

not provide a monthly scholarship parallel, it would be good to get from home 100-200 USD per

month additionally. The first monthly stipend arrive in late September or in October, so it is

recommended to bring along money to 300-500 USD, you can tackle the meals and other costs

which also arise at the beginning of the year (e.g. Travel pass, damage inclusive).

MEDICAL CARE

The basic medical care is provided during your study in Balassi Institute. Medical Care card is

needed to arrange after enrollment.
