"(Demolition) has pretty much wrapped up at this point and workers are going to start framing out rooms soon," Acosta said. "Everything remains on schedule — it's all very exciting."

Earlier this year, the Bay City Commission unanimously approved a six-year tax incentive for the Times Lofts project. Under the Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Exemption Certificate incentive, all new taxes generated by the project, except those for local schools, will be forgiven for the next years. If the development team holds up their end of a development agreement with the city, they could be eligible for another six-year tax incentive.

With the incentive in place, the building owner will continue to pay about $22,800 per year in taxes, according to 2015 tax records.
