about beaches, I’d say Nha Trang comes first then Mui Ne then Vung Tau. VT is the closest to Ho Chi Minh City and every holiday, it’s crowded with local and foreign tourists. We had a long weekend due to Labor Day and my family opted to travel to Vung Tau. It’s my third visit to this place and every visit has different experiences. Read my reviews below (‘,)Bads:1. Prices soared up high the moment April 30 hit the calendar and it carried on till May 2. Budget hotels were charging double or triple the room rates on normal days. They ranged from 1, 500,000 VND to 1, 800,000 VND. Even taxi drivers were ridiculously not following what’s on the meter. SPA was overcharging and my foot massage which was supposedly for an hour went down to 30 minutes and they dared ask for a tip? I still handed her a tip but was a bit upset about the service.2. Too much rubbish on the beach. All local and foreign tourists were too easy on throwing trash on the beach. It was in the morning when I saw a huge pile of trash. Although there were rubbish collectors, I believe Vung Tau should fine anyone dumping rubbish to preserve and maintain its beauty.3. Reckless drivers were showing off their speed without helmets on. We’ve decided long time ago to either travel on foot or by taxi in Vung Tau, so I didn’t really experience the xe om (motorbike taxi) but by the looks of it, it sure was more dangerous than riding a xe om in Saigon.Goods:1. Seafood. We feasted on crabs, shells, and fish along the beach the very first day. Cay Bang Restaurant didn’t disappoint us, we dined there on our second night. Fresh oysters, crabs, shrimps and their seafood hot pot were all heavenly. Dining with a panoramic view of the beach was perfect for family and friends to enjoy the night. Our breakfast was always at Lan Rung Restaurant. Good food and reasonably priced and they have a private pool.2. Friendly locals and tourists. Everyone wore happy faces. Everywhere we went, people were spending time with their loved ones. The atmosphere was always light, calm and joyful. Perfect! Cause we were there for a holiday!3. Lots of activities for such small city. They have dog racing. Long queue made us decide not to bet and just watch the show. It was my first experience and I’d say it was festive!Kite flying is one of the famous activities here. They have ginormous and colorful kites making the skies more beautiful. The have cable cars traveling from the front beach to the big mountain-perfect for enjoying the view of the hills, the beach and the city. The cars were also very colorful at night; kids and adults enjoyed the view and the ride.Foodies love this place too because there’s a variety of local and international foods and restaurants available. Food lovers can also choose from affordable to top range delicacies and places. I’m talking about 10,000VND to 1,500,000VND meals. And the obvious- SWIMMING.
