1. My name is Thang Huu NGUYEN, born on 18 August 1992 in Ha Tinh, Viet Nam. I grew up in this conservative province all my young life and to the best of my knowledge, I have never been convicted of any crime.
2. I come from a family of 4 children, a mother and a father, my family all live in Ha Tinh, Viet Nam.
3. In Viet Nam I studied Electromechanical in Mining at Quang Ninh Industry University for 6 months, and then I came to Australia to study English and a Bachelor of Business in December 2012.
Protection Claims

4. I make this declaration in support of my application for a protection visa in Australia based on the conventional ground of my imputed political opinion and being a member of a particular social group.
5. My story began in Vietnam. When I was a young man I made stupid decisions which I now regret as I get older, but coming to Australia was one of the best decisions I made.
6. I was born in a very poor village in Viet Nam, however, my family always tried to do better and be content and happy with what we had.
7. There were and still are terrible stories that come out of my small village in Viet Nam. Stories about the corrupt government, the use of violence by police to make people do what they would like and stories of corruption by government official or workers are common.
8. The government officials, such as members of parliament, police and local council members are the most corrupt, known to embezzle money and obtain properties and assets from local people who cannot defend themselves. Anyone who tries to speak out or report is severely threatened not to speak or else they would receive beatings or worse.
9. My parents have a small Karaoke shop, which only had 4 rooms, but the police would often come to the shop and demanding money and harassing us. We never saw what the money was used for so life only became more difficult. On one particular occasion, I went to report this harassment by police at the local police station but my parents told me it was of no use. Still I went to the police and spoke to a police man there about what had happened and asked to see the Sergeant. He laughed in my face and told me that it had been the Sergeant’s orders and that I should behave like all the other villagers who were obedient. The policeman told me that if I protested they would arrest me and put me in jail.
10. After I completed my secondary school I went to Quang Ninh province to study electric mining. I also worked part-time at the coffee shop – Ban Mai as a waiter to make extra money in Dong Trieu, Quang Ninh. Whilst I was working there Mr Hoang Minh Nguyen (birth year, 1974) and Ms Bui Le Van came to the coffee shop where I was working quite regularly and we became friendly. We discussed about police brutality and how the police had attacked their business and been made bankrupt.
11. I came to know that they owned a business of beauty product ship is Dong Trieu and they are part of a charity group called ‘THAP SANG NIEM TIN’ to help the poor. So I joined the group about 25 people wanting to assist the less fortunate. However, this charity group is not what I assumed it would be. The members behaved strangely and held a lot of secret meetings, so I consulted Mr Hoang and Ms Van about to find about more information about this group that behaved strangely and the informed that they were just sponsors for the group and that I shouldn’t ask too many questions
12. In 2011 Ms Van contacted me again and told me that the group was going on a trip to Tay Bac to deliver instant noodles, rice and clothes to an ethnic minority and I agreed to go as I had 2 weeks off semester break from school. Was joined by 2 other friends Thu and Giap to go to Tay Bac to distribute products to the poor.
13. As I was offloading the boxes of food and clothes I noticed a box with a specific name LO A Dan. I was surprised to see the box with a specific name, so I asked Mr Hoang about the parcel and he told me that it was a gift from Ms Van to Lo A Dan. I was very suspicious about this box and its contents so I opened the package and saw a lot of silk cotton as I continued to dig into the parcel I noticed United States dollars. I was confused about this and very scared. I began to pay more attention to Mr Hoang and Ms Van.
14. One morning I arrived early at the gathering area for the volunteers and heard Ms Van having a conversation about a huge money investment organisation with someone I soon found out was part of the government. I was speechless because she said she hated and was against the strict government )

When she was not paying attention, I opened her laptop and saw information of Ms Van and Mr Hoang showed that they hated government and they made connections with overseas Vietnamese in America who really hate government, she used electronic transfer system from overseas money to VIET NAM under her business and laundering money for VIET NAM government officers.
